"Free-styling" with rhymes

I did my first sort of free-style rap the other day on vacation to the East Coast. It went pretty much as follows:

Money is all I've ever thought
But that doesn't mean it's all I've got
I'll have to keep this terse
Because I have trouble coming up with a verse
I'm not very good at saying what I feel
But that doesn't mean I can't seal a deal
Cause I try to be methodical
About focusing on the logical

This got me thinking about rhyming - and I think I might actually start trying to do some poetry.

Stage hypnotist Doug MacCraw

I'm skeptical but open-minded about most things, but when it came to hypnotism I was mostly skeptical. I figured it could have minor effects, but that anyone hypnotized could quickly break out of it. I got back from a vacation a couple weeks ago, and there was a "stage hypnotism" show by Doug MacCraw. You can see a bit of what it was like in this Youtube video. I also found an interview with Doug over at The Daily Orange. He says he "bores people into hypnosis". However he does it, I'd like to learn. He mentioned at the end that the medical applications of hypnosis are underrated, which, if that show is any indication, seems likely.

Thundarr the Barbarian and Hiero's Journey

My coworker reads fantasy/science fiction novels. I haven't done that since high-school (and one brief spurt in college), but I miss them. So he gave me a copy of Hiero's Journey, a fun little book about a post-apocalyptic fantasy world.

It reminded me distinctly of Thundarr the Barbarian, a similarly post-apocalyptic but less sophisticated fantasy TV show on Cartoon Network. I've managed to find the first couple episodes on Youtube.

Later, I might watch a bit of Pirates of Darkwater. When I was a kid, I only watched a few episodes of these shows here and there through the kindly recordings given to us by our elderly neighbor. We didn't have cable.

UPDATE: The shows got old quick.

Another Amazing Internet Show

If you want to understand college life (at least for a certain subculture) and laugh your ass off, check out out Underexposed from SPG Productions. These guys are gonna be huge. The main character (Jimmy Barker) reminds me of myself, but perhaps more pathetic and humorous. I think the main writer (Sean Cruser) is a philosophy major.

You may have to download the Divx software and codec, but it is worth it. That site is like a higher-class Youtube, which comes at a price of slightly longer load times and technical hang-ups.

Lufia II

"I hear there are monsters in the North Cave."
"Yeah."
"Are you going away again?"
"Well, that's my job."
"Be...be careful..."

"You always say that. But I always worry."
"I'll get them but you have to buy them, Tia."

"Well, see ya."

I had to load my one of my favorite old SNES games today, Lufia II. It's kinda sad. I have learned a fair amount in college but all I really want to do at some deep level is read fantasy and play RPGs.

I had to load up it up. I just felt too nostalgic to resist. We'll see how long I can go before the guilt of avoiding productive activity catches up with me.
